Am 2. Oktober 2019 jährt sich der Geburtstag des indischen Unabhängigkeitskämpfers Mahatma Gandhi zum 150. Mal
Man kann sich mit Recht fragen, ob das zur heutigen Zeit noch jemanden interessiert. Den Älteren unter Ihnen ist Gandhi bekannt als indischer Rechtsanwalt, Asket und Pazifist, der Indien 1948 in die Unabhängigkeit von den Briten geführt hat. Für die jüngere Generation gehört Indien zu den aufstrebenden Staaten, die im Rahmen der Globalisierung und aufgrund der riesigen Bevölkerung wirtschaftlich interessant sind. Soziale Probleme, fehlende Menschenrechte und somit auch Gandhi sind kaum ein Thema, wenn es um den wirtschaftlichen Erfolg geht.
In Indien selber lebt das gewaltfreie Wirken von Mahatma Gandhi immer wieder auf, vor allem, wenn sich Rajagopal Puthan Veetil (Rajagopal P.V.) mit Zehntausenden AnhängerInnen in der Öffentlichkeit für Soziale Integration der Ärmsten und die Umsetzung der Menschenrechte einsetzt (vgl. www.jaijagat2020.org) . 2007 marschierte er mit 25’000 Betroffenen nach Delhi, um ihre Forderungen an die Regierung zu richten. 2012 waren es 75’000, da die Regierung viele ihrer Versprechen nicht eingehalten hatte.
Im Oktober 2019, zum 150. Geburtstag von Gandhi, macht sich Rajagopal erneut auf den Weg zu den Mächtigen (JaiJagat2020). Diesmal wird er 2020 seine Forderungen mit Menschenrechts-AktivistInnen aus beinahe zwanzig Ländern von Indien nach Genf an den Sitz der UNO, der WHO und der Weltbank bringen. Diese drei Organisationen sind ja besonders in der Pflicht, wenn die Eliminierung der Armut, die Nachhaltigkeit der Wirtschaft und gewaltfreie Konfliktlösung global zu vermehrter Einhaltung der Menschenrechte führen soll.
In Winterthur findet in unserem Restaurant Saffron zum 150. Geburtstag von Gandhi und zum Start des Marsches eine Sonderwoche statt.
Indische Köstlichkeiten werden angeboten. UnterstützerInnen von Rajagopal zeigen einen Film vom gewaltfreien Einsatz der letzten Jahre in Indien und informieren zum Marsch nach Genf.

Special week at Saffron restaurant for Gandhi’s 150th birthday
On October 2, 2019, the birthday of the Indian independence fighter Mahatma Gandhi will be celebrated for the 150th time
You can rightly ask yourself whether it still interests anyone today. Among the older ones, Gandhi is known as an Indian lawyer, ascetic, and pacifist, who led India to independence from the British in 1948. For the younger generation, India is one of the emerging nations that are economically attractive in the context of globalization and the huge population. Social problems, lack of human rights and thus also Gandhi are hardly an issue when it comes to economic success.
In India itself, Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent activities are constantly revived, especially when Rajagopal Puthan Veetil (Rajagopal PV), with tens of thousands of supporters in public, works for the social inclusion of the poorest and the implementation of human rights (see www.jaijagat2020.org ). In 2007, he marched 25,000 people to Delhi to address their demands to the government. In 2012, there were 75,000, as the government had failed to live up to many of its promises.
In October 2019, on the occasion of Gandhi’s 150th birthday, Rajagopal sets off for Geneva (JaiJagat2020). This time, in 2020, he will bring his demands with human rights activists from nearly twenty countries from India to the headquarters of the UN, the WHO and the World Bank. These three organizations have a particular duty, if the elimination of poverty, the sustainability of the economy and non-violent conflict resolution should lead to more global respect for human rights.
In Winterthur, a special week takes place in our restaurant Saffron on the occasion of the 150th birthday of Gandhi and the start of the march.
Indian delicacies are offered. Supporters of Rajagopal are showing a film about the non-violent efforts of recent years in India and informing about the march to Geneva.
